The Parishes and other Mission Agencies Commission is one of the six Commissions in the organisational structure of the Brisbane Diocese. The brief of the pmc includes resourcing, supporting and serving the 138 Parishes of the Diocese, and other mission agencies. The pmc complements and assists the existing Episcopal Regions (North, South, West) with their strategical, pastoral and liturgical functions.

The Parishes and other Mission Agencies Commission consults with the parishes and other agencies to facilitate strategic planning, policy development, and the monitoring of their operations, and will assist them in identifying strategies and priorities to increase their effectiveness and growth.  There is a group called SAMBA (for once, not an acronym - just a name that is 'fresh') who are working within our Diocese and as part of the national Fresh Expressions group.  Come follow the dance --? and you will learn more about them.

A significant project undertaken by the pmc is the “Connect2Church” initiative.  The intent is to foster a welcoming and invitational culture in our church, and for the past 3 years we have been part of a national program looking at connections with our local communities.

Another key project  is the Natural Church Development program, with Project Officer the Reverend Dr Ralph Bowles. NCD has their own website with lots of resources for parishes - www.brisangncd.org.au - that button to your left over there  will take you directly to the site.

The Measuring Growth Task Group provides data for growth initiatives and the Church Planting Steering Committee provides strategies for growth in key areas of the diocese.

The pmc supports clergy through the work of the Clergy Well Being Committee, and organizing the provision of Clergy Retreats and assistance with the Clergy Regional Conferences.

We also support the development of lay ministry with an annual series of “Strengthening Parish Leadership” workshops, and working with the other Commissions in organizing various Diocesan gatherings around specific ministries; eg, children and youth, vocations, volunteer ministry.

A key component of the pmc brief is to umbrella and coordinate various Chaplaincies. This includes Hospital Chaplaincy, Corrective Services Chaplaincy, Police Chaplaincy, and Tertiary Chaplaincy. A significant part of this is the training and preparation of Anglican Volunteer Visitors with these chaplaincy ministries.  Hospital Chaplaincy and Corrective Services Chaplaincy are always glad to hear from anyone who feels that they are called to assist in these ministries and the coordinators will happily discuss the training necessary to become part of these teams.

The Parishes and other Mission Agencies Commission also supports Angligreen , the environmental group who investigate issues, stir up response and actively work to foster a sense of responsibility for the care of God's creation.  You'll see their website access also to the left of this screen where you can find resources, analysis and discussion of envirnomental issues facing us.

St John’s College, the Anglican Committee for Ecumenical Affairs, Mission to Seamen, Aboriginal, Torres Strait, Sudanese Ministries, and Interfaith Dialogue, also report to the Synod of the Diocese through PMC.

The pmc is a servant commission, working closely across Commissions - with the Ministry Education Commission, the Anglican Schools Commission, the Community Services Commission, the Diocesan Services Commission and the Financial Services Commission – to enable the “Whole Church to be engaged with the Whole Mission.”

Please enjoy your journey around this website.  Let us know if you have sugestions for its betterment.

                              THE STORY OF OUR LOGO

SMALL butterfly 600pixels

                                                     Growth & Journey

  • The Leaves are an overt symbol of life and growth

  • The colours of green and red symbolise growth specific to Australia.  Green is traditionally associated with
growth and the ochre/red symbolises the distinctly Australian red earth.
  • The shape of the cross is suggested in the spaces between the four shapes.  This places
growth in the context of the Christ-centred journey.
  • The combination of the four shapes suggests a butterfly which symbolises journey and transformation.
  • Avoiding sharp corners and geometric shapes creates a sense of connection with people.
  • The letters have a distinct up and down bias, showing growth.  They also taper out suggesting
that growth is always an unfinished process
